Backgammon History

Backgammon has origins dating back possibly over 5000 years. It has been
around a long time with recorded History showing that both the Ancient
Greeks and the Romans played Backgammon in its original form

The popular Backgammon game we are so familiar with today was modified
slightly in the seventeenth century in England which is also when it got
its name of Backgammon. It took Europe by Storm again under a variety of
different names, which have mostly stayed the same.

In the 1970's Backgammon was, for use of a better term, 'resurrected' and
became very popular in the 1990's with the arrival of the Internet. Since
the 1990's Backgammon has experienced a rapid growth in popularity as
people from all over the world get online and play any time of the day and
night with others.
